Police have announced two arrests in connection with a recent shooting death in the Junction and are seeking a third suspect.

On Dec. 29, police responded to a call on Gilmour Avenue just north of Dundas Street West.

They found Kenneth Mark, 29, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Doctors pronounced him dead in hospital.

Mark had just left a pizzeria. Two men had come up on Mark from behind before shooting him. Security cameras in the area gave police some images of the suspects.

Mark had reportedly tried to keep local youths away from gang members who had been trying to recruit them. He had previously been attacked.

On Thursday, Toronto police announced two individuals had been arrested and charged with first-degree murder:

  • Lamar Skeete, 19, of no fixed address
  • a 16-year-old boy

A second 16-year-old boy is being sought by police. The names of the youths cannot be released under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Skeete and his co-accused were to make a court appearance on Tuesday afternoon.
