TORONTO - The Ontario Court of Appeal has dismissed a claim by the Chippewas of Mnjikaning that they don't have to share revenues from Casino Rama with other First Nations.

The Chippewas claim the original deal with Ontario to build Casino Rama on their land entitles them to a 35 per cent share of the gambling profits.

The Chippewas of Mnjikaning, which has about 1,500 people, claims it is also entitled to a portion of the gross revenues from Casino Rama.

The other 133 First Nations fought the Chippewas claim and won a lower court ruling, which was upheld today by the Court of Appeal.

Casino Rama has posted profits in excess of $1.2 billion on revenues over more than $5.2 billion since it opened in 1996.

It's the only commercial casino located on a reserve in the province.
