WATERLOO, Ont. - The Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan has called in fraud specialists to work with teachers whose sensitive information was on a stolen laptop.

It was taken from the organization's head office in Waterloo during a robbery on December 3rd.

Police described it as a "smash and grab" operation and they believe the thieves were not after the information on the laptops but wanted something they could sell quickly.

Julie Millard, the insurance group's director of communications, says the laptop contained sensitive and unencrypted information belonging to about 86-hundred elementary teachers in Toronto.

She says the affected members were contacted about the theft and offered the opportunity to call the fraud specialists with any concerns.

So far, there have been about 600 calls to the fraud experts and about 50 to 60 at the group's head office.
