A blaze in a townhouse east of Hamilton has claimed the life of a woman.
The fire broke out around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, and fire crews arrived on the scene to find a mattress on fire in the home's second floor.
A woman was found with severe burns and was sent to Hamilton General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Fire officials say the flames were restricted to one room, and no one else was at home during the fire.
There isn't any indication yet what caused the fire, and the Ontario Fire Marshall's office is probing the blaze.
