SOUTHWOLD, Ont. - Ontario Provincial Police say a Siberian tiger that killed its owner last month has been transported unharmed to an undisclosed location.

The 300-kilogram tiger fatally mauled Norman Buwalda, 66, on Jan. 10 at his exotic animal sanctuary in Southwold Township near St. Thomas.

The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals expressed concern Thursday that the tiger was no longer on the property, and the society didn't know where it was.

The OSPCA went to the farm last week in response to a complaint about the well-being of animals on the property.

Southwold Mayor Jim McIntyre also said he didn't know what became of the tiger, adding he was concerned for public safety.

Provincial police in Elgin County said Friday that the tiger and two lions were safely taken away on Jan. 27 to an undisclosed location and that there are no exotic animals remaining on the property.
