A man has been charged with impaired driving following a crash that left a Woodbridge cab driver dead on Sunday morning.

Police say taxi driver Kesar Singh, 64, had a minor collision with a red Hyundai Elantra around 4 a.m. Monday morning on Hwy. 427. The Elantra driver left the scene.

Singh got out of his cab to check the damage, when a GMC Envoy slammed into him from behind.

Singh was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ernesto Ditri, 30, of Woodbridge is charged with impaired driving, criminal negligence causing death, and two counts of public mischief. He was to appear in court Tuesday for a bail hearing.

Ontario Provincial Police are warning people to stay inside their vehicle at all times after a crash on the highway.

They are also asking people to keep their eyes open for a red Elantra with damage to the rear and a broken left tail light. People with information are asked to call the OPP's Toronto detachment at 416-235-4981 or 1-888-310-1122.
