A 26-year-old man is dead and two other men in their twenties were injured after a violent altercation outside a Steeles Avenue restaurant Saturday.

Detectives spent Saturday combing the parking lot of Coconuts Restaurant and Lounge at 2180 Steeles Ave. West for evidence in the case. Police say they do not have any suspects in custody.

The restaurant was holding a Spring Fling party Friday night. Police say the altercation took place after the lounge closed at 3 a.m.

Kishore Totaram, owner of Coconuts, said the altercation did not take place at the party.

"Not a single (fight)," he told CTV Toronto. He said he hired extra security for the event.

Police say they find it suspicious that no one called 911 to report the incident. They were alerted to the stabbing after the three victims were transported to various local hospitals some time after 3 a.m. Saturday.

Roger Samaroo, a 26-year-old Toronto resident, succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Two other men, aged 22 and 26, both sustained non life-threatening injuries.

York Regional Police are reviewing footage from a security camera in the area and questioning patrons of the Coconuts to help them determine what led to the violence. The restaurant remained closed Saturday as police completed their investigation.

Lloyd Samaroo, the dead man's father, said he can't believe what happened.

"This is shocking," he said. "I can't understand how he could die this way. If he was sick, fine, but not like this."

Rocky Persaud, Roger Samaroo's cousin, told CTV Toronto he hopes witnesses will come forward with information that will lead to an arrest.

"Make a phone call," he said. "Look at his pictures and get some feelings in your heart."

Persaud said Samaroo likely knew at least one of the other victims.
