Toronto has vaulted into record warmth territory, exceeding a record that had stood for more than 40 years.
At 4 p.m., the temperature at Pearson International Airport was 23 degrees Celsius.
The previous record was 20.6 C, set on April 2, 1967.
It was warmer here than it was in Los Angeles. Ottawa hit 28C, and the mid-20s weather extended into northern cottage country.
For more perspective, the record Toronto low is -6.1C, set in 1962. A normal day would see a high of 9C and a low of zero. One year ago was also a nice day, reaching 15.1C.
In 2002, the city received 9.6 centimetres of snow. There was 29.5 millimetres of rain on this day in 1967.
There is no precipitation on the horizon for the next few days, although showers will likely arrive on Tuesday.
If Saturday's predicted high of 26C is achieved, it will also set a new record. The current record for April 3 is 22.2C, set in 1981. Sunday and Monday also promise to be warm and sunny.
Torontonians are taking advantage of the great weather. They were hitting the tennis courts in Trinity Bellwoods park downtown and the beach volleyball courts in the Beach.
People snacked on ice cream and enjoyed a cold beer on sun-warmed patios. Some enjoyed getting out to the driving range to whack golf balls, or fishing in the Humber River below Old Mill. Others grilled sardines in Kensington Market, part of a tradition to have a meatless day on Good Friday.
However, other people thought it was a bit early for it to be warm enough to start the yardwork.
For the city's Christians, this is a religious holiday, marking the day Jesus Christ was crucified. St. Francis of Assisi Church held its annual Good Friday parade in Little Italy, which started at 3 p.m.
