The body of a middle-aged man was found dumped in a laneway in west-end Toronto early Sunday morning but police say they are still not sure the victim met with foul play.
A male passerby alerted police just before 7:30 a.m. when he noticed the man's body in a laneway in the Roncesvalles Avenue neighbourhood. The laneway is located north of Dundas Street West near Boustead Avenue, Staff Sgt. Ken Taylor told ctvtoronto.ca.
Police say the victim was an amputee, a middle-aged man who lost his left leg in recent years. Police believe the man may have been a panhandler or homeless. They are looking to speak with anyone who could help them identify the victim.
Police are investigating the incident as a suspicious death. Detectives from 11 Division spent Sunday canvassing the area where the body was found for witnesses. Forensic investigators remained at the scene throughout the day.
While the death was deemed suspicious by investigators, authorities have yet to rule the incident a homicide.
An autopsy on the body will help detectives determine if they are dealing with a murder.
