An 18-year-old man is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with the death of his mother, who was found dead Friday at the scene of a car crash in Bolton, Ont., police say.

The woman, 54-year-old Bolton resident Krystina Armstrong, was the passenger in a car that was involved in a minor collision with another vehicle, Caledon OPP said in a statement Sunday night.

No one else was injured in the collision.

The Ontario Provincial Police said that the crash, which happened on the town's Simpson Road at around 9: 40 p.m. Friday, was not a factor in the woman's death. However, police have not yet released the cause of death.

Police said Monday they arrested the suspect, who was driving the car containing Krystina, and charged him with second-degree murder.

Luke Armstrong was remanded into custody and will next appear in Orangeville court on Thursday.

Classmates describe him as a quiet, laidback young man. Bolton residents say this is more like a big-city crime.

Armstrong's parents have separated. Luke has been living with his father.

His father declined to comment to CTV News, saying they were dealing with a family tragedy and wanted their privacy.
