The University of Toronto will be shut down during next month's G20 Summit, CTV Toronto has learned.
The university is the latest institution to be affected by the high-level meetings, which are set for June 26 and 27.
While most of the meetings will occur at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, officials have created a protest zone at the north end of Queen's Park, which is in close proximity to the U of T campus.
It is also believed that students who live in university residences will have to be moved during the weekend summit. They will be housed at some of the university's other residences, located further away from the protest grounds.
While no classes are in session during the shutdown, some exams have been moved and will now occur earlier in the week.
University staff said that the decision to shut down for the summit occurred after Queen's Park was designated as the official protest zone.
CTV Toronto's Naomi Parness spoke to some students who felt that the closure is an overreaction. Other students expressed frustration that their exams will have to be moved.
Student Adrienne Vos said the exam changes will lead to more stress.
"I don't think it's going to be a pleasant change," she said.
The campus will be closed from Thursday, June 24 to Sunday, June 27. Only essential staff will be allowed on campus.
Meanwhile, many downtown businesses will also have to shut down while the meetings take place.
Earlier this month, it was announced that the Blue Jays will move a home series with the Phillies to Philadelphia because of security concerns.
