No one was hurt after a Roman candle was thrown from a residential balcony into a group of firefighters late Sunday in downtown Toronto.

Toronto police Sgt. Jim Gibson says the lit firework was thrown from a balcony at firefighters trying to control a fire on Howard Street, near Bloor and Jarvis Streets.

The average Roman candle is designed to shoot eight exploding shells 15 metres into the sky for an average of 20 seconds.

There was a similar incident involving a Roman candle on May 25 when man fired into the open door of a transit bus.

The bus driver was hit in the arm and the right side of his head but did not suffer serious or visible wounds.
