A fatal plane crash at the Buttonville airport in York Region is being investigated by police.
It is believed that the body of one man has been removed from the plane. However, it isn't yet known if the victim was the pilot or a passenger.
The crash happened west of Highway 404 and 16th Avenue, near Markham, Ont., north of Toronto.
Witness Tom Strezos said the crash was both shocking and disturbing.
"All of a sudden I saw this plane turning, it was going south, then all of a sudden the nose went down and it went straight into the ground," he said.
"It just came torpedoing to the ground … it was terrible."
He added that it did not appear that the plane was carrying an advertising banner.
Investigators haven't said if there were any passengers onboard.
Earlier, there were reports that a coroner was to visit the scene.
Photos of the crash scene show that debris from the small, two-seater aircraft is scattered in a parking lot.
Officers are keeping reporters far back from the scene.
The plane is owned by Skywords Traffic, which bills itself as an "aerial advertising company."
The company had offices in Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver.
The crash is the second in less than a month at the airport, which is among Canada's busiest.
