MONTREAL - A threatened strike at Via Rail has been averted.

The railway has reached a tentative three-year agreement with more than two-thousand of its workers who are members of the Canadian Auto Workers.

The workers include maintenance personnel, ticket vendors, and on-board employees.

Contract talks continued in Montreal this weekend after the union set a strike deadline of 11:59 p.m. ET Sunday.

The CAW says its master bargaining committee fully supports the agreement, which union members will vote on over next two weeks.

Details of the agreement won't be released until after the ratification vote.

The major issues were money, benefits, and pensions.
