Some major transportation corridors have been shut because of flooding as heavy rain pelts the city.

Union Station is now closed to subway traffic due to flooding and passengers are being asked to use St. Andrew and King stations instead.

Portions of Lakeshore Blvd. have also been flooded, and Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm alert for the city. The weather service says that up to 50 millimetres of rain could fall per hour.

There are also unconfirmed reports of flooding on the Bayview Extension.

Earlier, a tornado watch was ended for portions of southern Ontario.

Motorists are also being told to exercise caution as the heavy rain creates visibility problems.
