The province's Special Investigations Unit is probing injuries a man sustained Wednesday at Graydon Hall Drive, where a woman fell 11 storeys from an apartment balcony.
A 39-year-old man's hand and ribs were injured shortly after 5 p.m. when police arrived at a 150 Graydon Hall Dr. apartment building, near Don Mills and York Mills Roads.
He has been released from custody after his "interaction" with police, the SIU said.
The SIU investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
The interaction also left several police officers with injuries. One suffered a broken hand.
The man is facing charges in connection with his alleged interaction with police. He will appear in court in September.
A short time later, a 27-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious head injuries. A satellite dish broke her fall from a balcony on the 11th floor.
Officers responded to the apartment building and forced open the door.
"Police got called to an 'unknown trouble' call," Toronto Police Detective Darren Berezowski told reporters at the scene on Wednesday.
"As they were responding to the call, a woman ended up going over the balcony."
The SIU is looking into how the woman came to fall from the balcony.
Residents report the apartment from which the woman fell was an illegal massage parlour. A website does list a massage business called "Oriental Sunshine Exotic Massage" as operating at the building, but doesn't give a unit number.
