A manhunt in Peterborough has ended with the arrest of a man wanted in connection with the death of his mother.

Etienne Beaulieu, 21, was taken into custody early Thursday morning -- several hours after the body of Isabel Robitaille was discovered in a home, police said.

Robitaille, 49, had been stabbed to death around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Police issued a warning to the public not to approach the suspect who was believed to be carrying a knife and riding a mountain bike. A canine unit and a police helicopter were dispatched to locate Beaulieu; he was arrested at a Peterborough hospital.

Beaulieu is charged with first degree murder. In a court appearance Thursday morning, Beaulieu reportedly had an outburst upon being ordered to make a second court appearance at another time.

"What do you mean next court appearance, I just got here," he said.

The Peterborough Examiner described Robitaille as a local school teacher.
