The suspect in an April west-end homicide has surrendered to police.

On April 4 at 7:23 a.m., Toronto Police arrived at a laneway near Bloor Street West and Dundas Street West and found the body of George Rucinski, 59.

An autopsy found he had died of blunt-force trauma to the body. He was Toronto's 12th homicide victim of 2010.

Rucinski was an amputee who had lost his left leg in recent years.

On Tuesday, police issued a warrant for the arrest of Stephen Downey, 49, on a charge of second-degree murder.

Late Wednesday evening, Downey, accompanied by his lawyer, surrendered to police at 11 Division, police said Thursday in a news release.

Downey was scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
