Police are investigating after four young men, including three teenagers, were shot in west-end Toronto Wednesday night in an incident that left bullets in some neighbouring residences.

Police say the victims were outside a townhouse at 105 Humber Blvd. South near Weston Road and Black Creek Drive, when they came under fire from at least three different shooters.

"It sounded like a big 'boom.' And then it just went on again and again and again," area resident Constance Holden told reporters. "And then it stopped. And then it was just silence. You didn't hear a word. Not a scream. Nothing."

A 19-year-old man was shot in the chest, a 17-year-old boy was shot twice in the face, and an 18-year-old man was shot in the legs.

The 19-year-old victim is listed in critical condition. All were taken to Humber Finch hospital.

A 23-year-old man made his own way to the hospital, but police have no word on his injuries.

Investigators at the scene say they have recovered about 20 shell casings from at least three weapons, along with an abandoned handgun.

Police have not yet released any information about the suspects. They also won't speculate about what might have prompted the incident.

"It's still too early for us to make any assessment with respects to that," Sgt. Michael Mersereau said Thursday.

In the course of their investigation, police found bullets had struck two surrounding homes.

A bullet struck a kitchen cupboard, and another one went right through a chair that had been occupied earlier by a child.

One resident said the violence made her want to move. Another asked for God's help.

"There's not a day I don't go outside and go, 'I hope to God I come back in one piece and not on a stretcher,'" Holden said.

Three other men have been struck by gunfire in the west end this week, with one dying of his wounds.
