TORONTO - There's been a huge surge in membership of a Facebook page that will update users about active Amber Alerts in Ontario.

As of noon Saturday, about 30,000 people had clicked "like" on the page.

That's compared to the 5,000 members that signed up by Friday evening.

The page, called Amber Alert Ontario, was launched Friday morning.

OPP say information posted on the social networking website could reach millions of users who can help in the search for abducted children.

Authorities hope Canada's 15 million Facebook users, including seven million in Ontario, can help them in the first crucial three to five hours after a child is abducted.
