Toronto police are looking for two suspects following a shooting at a bus stop late Wednesday morning that left a man with two gunshot wounds.

The incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of Finch Avenue West and Sentinel Road, which is several blocks west of Keele Street.

A 22-year-old man has been taken to hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds, Toronto police said.

The injuries are believed to be serious, but not life-threatening.

The bus stop has been damaged by gunfire, with a basketball-sized hole in one shattered plexiglas panel. Police said other people were either in or near the bus shelter when gunfire broke out.

Police at the scene told CTV News they didn't know whether one or both of the suspects were armed.

Police took one person into custody, but they were considered a person of interest and not a suspect.

One suspect ran towards Fountainhead Road, which is north of the Finch/Sentinel intersection.

The other suspect and the victim ran south on Sentinel. The victim was found behind C.W. Jefferys Collegiate, which is a few hundred metres south of the intersection.

It was the scene of a school shooting in 2007 that left 16-year-old Jordan Manners dead.

Jefferys, Derrydown Public School and Elia Middle School were under hold-and-secure orders as a precautionary measure.

When such orders are issued, students, staff and visitors are not allowed to leave the building nor is anyone allowed to enter.

Officials lifted the order around 1 p.m.
