A Toronto teenager has succumbed to fatal injuries she suffered after being hit by an SUV in the Town of Georgina last weekend.

The 16-year-old girl was walking with another teenager along a road on Saturday night when they were hit by an SUV that was headed in the same direction.

York Regional Police say the 16-year-old girl was taken to hospital with life-threatening injures and died in hospital Monday.

Police say the family does not want the name of the 16-year-old victim to be released.

The 17-year-old pedestrian who was hit in the same incident suffered minor injuries and has since been released from hospital.

The fatal collision remains under investigation, though police have ruled out alcohol and speed as factors.

Police are still seeking witnesses to the crash and ask anyone with information to call investigators at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7704, or to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Information can also be passed on through www.1800222tips.com, or by texting TIPYORK and a message to CRIMES (274637).
