A child safety advocate says the latest teenager to become the target of sexual assault reacted as best she could after being attacked as she left school on Friday afternoon.

The 15-year-old girl was walking along a secluded, wooded path between Loretto Abbey Catholic Secondary School and the York Mills subway station Friday afternoon.

Police said a man approached her from behind and attempted to sexually assault her. It was a brief encounter and the girl fought off the man.

She immediately returned to her school and told a teacher.

Pearl Rimer, a safety advocate with Boost Child Abuse Prevention and Intervention, says the victim in that case did everything she should have.

"Tell someone you trust right away, and that is really an important message," she told CTV News. "They are never to blame, even if they were somewhere they shouldn't have been, for anything that makes them uncomfortable or anything awful like this that happens to them."

Police described the man as having a dark brown complexion, between 25-30 years old, 5'9 – 5'11, with a medium build. He was balding with short black hair and unshaven. He was wearing a black track suit.

Rimer said children and young adults should check in with a parent, especially if they are running late. She said they should be aware of their surroundings while in public by limiting the use of cell phones and music players.

Whenever possible, teenagers should walk with at least one friend, she said.

Rimer added that parents should be clear on the routes children take home from school.

Police are investigating several recent sexual assaults in Toronto, primarily in the east end.

Two male suspects are being sought in connection to the abduction and sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl last week.

Police say the victim was approached in the area of McLevin Avenue and Neilson Road on the evening of Oct. 27, when she was forced into a dark blue Honda. Police say she was sexually assaulted before being pushed out of the car.

Another girl was also assaulted in Knob Hill Park last week, while two women were sexually assaulted in the same area, near Bellamy Road and Eglinton Avenue East, the week before.
