TORONTO - Dwayne De Rosario can expect to hear from Toronto FC very soon.

The Major League Soccer club said Tuesday it plans to contact its captain amid reports De Rosario is on trial in Scotland with Celtic.

The 32-year-old Toronto native is under contract with Toronto FC and would require permission before working out with Celtic.

"We were unaware of Dwayne's plan to train with Celtic and we will contact them to understand the situation," Toronto FC said in a statement. "Obviously, if there is interest in a short-term loan arrangement by either him or Celtic, they will need to approach us and the league formally and we will consider based on what is in TFC's best interest."

De Rosario has been Toronto FC's leading scorer the past two seasons and has made it clear he's not entirely happy with his salary.

In a 3-2 loss to San Jose late last season, he celebrated a goal by pretending to write a cheque, an action he later apologized for.
