Toronto has cancelled an extreme cold weather alert.

Environment Canada is forecasting temperatures will today rise above the -15 C threshold that triggers alerts aimed at getting homeless people indoors.

The agency says the temperature will warm to -9.

Highs will move gradually to -1 by this coming Sunday.

While Toronto residents won't have to cope with cold, they will have to get their shovels ready.

A system that could dump 20 centimetres of snow, or more, is expected to hit the region late Tuesday and into Wednesday.
