Police have identified a young man shot dead in Toronto's west end on Friday morning.

Gregory Taylor, 21, was found shot dead outside a building on Clearview Heights, near Black Creek Drive and Eglinton Avenue.

Police said he was found in the back of a car suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower back.

Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene, making him Toronto's ninth homicide of 2011.

Police said they do not believe he was shot while in the car, believed to belong to his brother.

Officers and canine units were canvassing the neighbourhood early Friday morning.

The homicide was captured by a security camera, according to investigators.

No one has been arrested.
