TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras - A Canadian who died in a plane crash in Honduras on Monday was a Toronto native who moved to the Central American country in 2009.

Peter Michael Jong was one of 14 people killed when a small commercial airliner crashed near the town of Las Mesitas.

There is no word on the cause of the crash, but the Let L-410 Turbolet was trying to reach a runway in foggy conditions.

Two years ago, Jong and his wife Tamara moved to Honduras, where they joined other Jehovah's Witnesses to teach Bible studies.

All 14 people on board the flight to Tegucigalpa were killed, including a senior government official and a top union leader.

The government declared three days of national mourning in honour of the government officials killed.
