A second-degree murder conviction has been delivered in the case of an Ontario man who died after a street fight on Queen Street West.

Nicole Kish, who was 22 at the time of the death, was convicted in a Toronto court on Tuesday afternoon, more than three years after the killing.

Ross Hammond, who was a 32-year-old from St. Catharines, died on Queen Street West after he got into an altercation with a group of panhandlers in August 2007.

The court heard that the fight started after Hammond was asked for cash. Hammond later died from stab wounds sustained during the melee.

The trial, which focused on allegations that Kish had been holding a knife during the brawl, began in January.

Three others initially involved in the incident were deported to the United States.
