Police have identified the city's latest murder victim, a 19-year-old who was shot several times in a drive-by shooting Wednesday night in the city's west end.

Toronto police said the shooting occurred near a housing complex at 4020 Dundas St. W., near Scarlett Road. Shane Williams was shot in the chest and rushed to Sunnybrook hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He underwent emergency surgery but died overnight. An autopsy has not yet been scheduled.

Const. Tony Vella said police believe Williams was targeted, adding the victim was standing on the sidewalk when he was shot. Several witnesses saw the vehicle and have come forward to police with information, Vella said.

A section of Dundas Street West remained closed Thursday morning while investigators probed the scene, said Toronto police.

No suspects have been identified at this time.
