A 24-year-old found dead in the stairwell of an apartment building in Etobicoke was shot in the head, police have confirmed.

The Toronto force is currently awaiting the results of an autopsy that was scheduled for Monday morning.

Police are struggling to contact the next of kin, and said that must occur before the name of the man is released.

The body was originally discovered on the fourth floor of 320 Dixon Road, just west of Islington, Sunday afternoon.

Residents told CTV Toronto they heard loud noises, perhaps gunshots, around 4 a.m. Sunday. However, no one called 911 until 1:30 p.m.

Constable Tony Vella, of the corporate communications, said the police are still hunting for clues and appealed to the public to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to call 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
