A fire has gutted a $6 million luxury Oakville home just as it was nearing completion.

The blaze broke out at about 5:44 a.m. on Wednesday at 23 Ennisclare Dr. W., in the east end of Oakville near the waterfront.

The fire department said there was no one in the house when the fire broke, but the owners are now on scene.

An estimated $2.5 million worth of damage was caused and there is no reason to suspect foul play at this point, said Oakville fire chief Richard Boyes.

He told CTV Toronto's Tamara Cherry that workers were "hanging the chandeliers" the previous day.

Fire officials added that no one had yet moved in and that the house was a "total loss".

A witness said that at its highest point, flames reached 15 feet.

Crews from the Office of the Fire Marshal, Halton Regional Police Service and the Oakville Fire Department are all investigating.
