A 25-year-old man charged after five dead dogs were found at a Clarington home on Sunday has been released on bail.

Joe Tucker is set to return to an Oshawa court on June 14, said officers at the Clarington detachment of the Durham Regional Police Service. Tucker faces firearms and animal cruelty charges.

Police said that four of the dead dogs were believed to have been shot. They seized a rifle, tripod and crossbow from the Clarington property.

Seven living puppies and an adult husky that police found on the property have been taken to a Whitby animal shelter.
