Chevrolet Camaro owners from across North America are arriving in Oshawa to attend a homecoming event and break a world record on Friday.

Drivers came from as far as Alberta, Baton Rouge, La., and Rhode Island to show off their cars and attend a weekend-long tour of GM's assembly plant.

The drivers planned to create a Guinness World Record for the largest car mosaic in the shape of Chevrolet's "bowtie" logo.

A rainbow of every model and colour was parked on the lot as stories were swapped between owners. One driver boasted of purchasing high-flow headers for his vehicle while another reminisced about buying his first Camaro at age 17.

Another said he was excited to see some of the older models.

"I think it's the whole Camaro experience. I've been a Chevy nut my whole life with Corvettes and Camaros so just to bring back the fifth generation Camaro I think is the fun part (and) meeting people from all over North America," he said.

Over 600 Camaros were pre-registered for the event, and event organizers are expecting up to 5,000 to show up.
