A serious accident has closed the eastbound collector lanes on Highway 401 between Port Union and Meadowvale.

Police are investigating a collision between a Mazda 6 and a GMC Envoy SUV that occurred at about 12:02 p.m. on Saturday, east of Port Union Road.

Police report the Mazda lost control during a lane manoeuvre and collided with the SUV, causing the SUV to hit a cement barrier and rollover into an eastbound express lane.

An adult woman sustained fractures to both legs and has been taken to Sunnybrook Hospital.

Emergency crews also took three children between the ages of three and six years old, to the Rouge Valley Centenary Hospital in Scarborough. Police report the children suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The male driver of the SUV died at the scene.

The female driver of the Mazda did not suffer any injuries and was taken to a police station in Toronto.
