A unique race held in Milton, Ont. on Sunday raised money for wounded Canadian soldiers.

The Spartan Race featured a grueling course of uphill running and obstacles such as barbed wire and a pit full of ice.

Competitors ran through the Kelso Quarry and fire, dragged heavy objects and spit out mouthfuls of mud after crawling through dirt.

This year marked the first time a community in the GTA has hosted the event and more than 2,000 participants competed in the race.

Guy LeBlanc decided to run the race with all his kids on Father's Day.

"They motivate me to keep in shape," said LeBlanc.

He said anytime he is with his kids it's a good day, but today was really worth it.

Marty Mayberry, another participant said he did the course just for fun and to beat himself up a bit.

"It was a great time, a lot tougher than I thought it was going to be. (I) should have trained," he said.

Course prizes included winners for the ‘Best Time,' but also for the ‘Best Injury."

"It was harder than I thought, but I did it so that's what I'm proud of," said Sarah Strickland.
