SMITH-ENNISMORE-LAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ont. - Provincial police say a woman and her small dog were attacked by a trained falcon just north of Peterborough, Ont.

Police say the woman was walking her dog on Glenwood Street in Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield Township on Sunday afternoon when the bird swooped in.

The 67-year-old woman suffered minor injuries to her eye, chin, cheek and shoulder and was treated at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre and released.

The woman shielded her dog from the falcon and it wasn't injured.

The owner of the falcon took control of the bird and provided the victim with his information.

The Peterborough City County Health Unit has been advised and the police investigation is continuing.
