HARPER WOODS, Mich. - Police say a street racing Detroit teenager with an invalid licence could be charged in a fiery tractor-trailer collision that killed an Ontario man in Michigan.

Forty-four-year-old Thayalan Vinasithamby of Brampton was killed Saturday night after his tractor-trailer was hit by a car, plowed into a Kroger grocery store in Harper Woods and burst into flames.

State police allege the 19-year-old driver of the car that hit the truck was racing another vehicle on Interstate 94 and going 145 to 160 kilometres an hour -- double the speed limit.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the driver could be charged with negligent homicide and driving while her licence was suspended causing death.

Police say the driver of the second vehicle also may face charges and that alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

Vinasithamby was driving empty pop cans from Ohio to Mississauga when his truck was hit, went up the embankment and crashed into the side of the building.
