An irate Toronto Whole Foods employee declared coworkers sociopaths and chauvinists and called the natural foods store "a faux hippy Walmart" in a 2,000-word resignation letter that went viral on Tuesday.

A six-year employee at the Whole Foods in Toronto's trendy Yorkville neighbourhood sent the email to everyone at the company.

(Gawker later posted the email online and blogs across the continent quickly reposted the tirade.

The "epic resignation" was being compared to that of Steven Slater, the flight attendant who announced his resignation before grabbing a beer and sliding down an airplane's emergency slide.

The author, whose name has been removed from the letter, accused the chain of abandoning its core values, claiming the Toronto location failed at everything from recycling initiatives to supporting its employees.

"You let some customers abuse your employees and then actually reward the customers for their behaviour and then trample on the integrity and honour of your abused employees," the letter reads.

It also complains about outdated computer systems and passive-aggressive managers, before suggesting the company overvalues work ethic.

"Oh, you actually think being 20 minutes late matters? You know Whole Foods Market is just a grocery store, right?" the letter reads.

The former employee spends the second half of the letter insulting co-workers individually, suggesting one belongs in a "psychiatric ward" and calling another a "sociopath."

The author later says one man deserves an award for being "best at ruining the entire meat department vicinity by blasting terrible music."

In another case, the author writes: "We get it, we get it. You go to the gym. Nobody is impressed. In fact we all just laugh at your inferiority complex."

The author ends his tirade by telling other co-workers to put life in perspective.

"You work at a grocery store. Go ahead and relax," the author writes.

A spokesperson for Whole Foods told CTVToronto.ca that they did not agree with the former employee's claims.

"We disagree with this former Team Member's statements, and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors," Kate Klotz said in an email.
