BURLINGTON, Ont. - Provincial police have charged an Oakville man with second-degree murder after the death of a woman on the QEW near Burlington on Saturday morning.

Officers say 32-year-old Amber Wilkinson was inside a vehicle driving down the highway when, for unknown reasons, she got out of the car.

Wilkinson was run over by the car as it sped off.

Police say they found the suspect at home in Oakville.

Billy Gladysz, 32, has been charged with second-degree murder and remanded into custody.

On Saturday, the Niagara-bound QEW was closed at Eastport Drive in Burlington from about 7 a.m. until mid-afternoon.

The highway was closed again for about half an hour Sunday morning so that officers could photograph the crime scene at the same time of day as when the incident occurred.

Police are treating the pedestrian fatality as a homicide.
