A man was transported to hospital after suffering a fatal gunshot wound to his neck on Monday evening.

Toronto police said the man was found shortly before 5 p.m. behind an apartment at 25 Bay Mills Blvd., in the Warden Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East neighborhood of Scarborough.

Officials said the man was Asian and is believed to have been between 50 and 55 years old. He was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital, according to police. He later died from his injuries.

Authorities said a witness claimed to hear 'firecrackers' and saw a man drop to the ground.

A weapon was located nearby.
