The body of a woman discovered in a pond north of Toronto over the weekend is that of Raquel Junio, investigators have confirmed.
Police made the announcement following a post-mortem exam Monday.
The 42-year-old woman from Brampton, Ont., went missing Thursday morning after police received a call that she had been forced into a black Ford pickup truck outside a home she shared with her estranged husband, Macdermid Ermacora.
Her body was located two days later, 30 kilometres north of Brampton in Palgrave.
Police had said that murder charges were possible in the case, depending on the results of Monday's autopsy.
Two suspects have been arrested in connection with Junio's kidnapping.
Ermacora, was arrested Thursday morning and charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement and assault. Ermacora's friend Gary Murray, 42, was also arrested Saturday and charged with kidnapping, assault and forcible confinement.
Police allege Murray is "directly" involved in the kidnapping, but they have not elaborated on his relationship with Ermacora.
"We do know that the suspects are friends," Minnion told reporters on Sunday. "The extent of that friendship sounds like they met for more than just a couple of days."
Both Ermacora and Murray will remain in custody until their bail hearings on Aug. 24.
While investigators scoured parts of Palgrave searching for clues on Sunday evening, a candlelight vigil for Junio was held in Brampton.
Colleagues gathered in front of the thrift shop where Junio worked to pray for the missing woman.
Peel police are stressing that the investigation into Junio's death is still ongoing. Investigators said they are still trying to fill in a timeline of what happened the night she went missing.
