Two joggers with a baby stroller escaped a close call with a black bear earlier this week after quick-thinking police officers used a helicopter to spook the animal back into the woods.

York Regional Police said two adults were jogging in Georgina Wednesday evening when they came within 200 metres of a black bear.

A police helicopter was in the area at the time and noticed the joggers, one of whom was pushing a baby stroller, suddenly stop and stand still.

Fearing the worst, the flight officers hovered above the bear and lowered the helicopter until the bear ran off.

The flight crew then followed the bear until it ran into a wooded area and disappeared. The two joggers were uninjured.

On Friday, police released footage of the chase. The pedestrians are not captured by the helicopter cameras.
