Police are investing an early morning shooting on Saturday that claimed the life of a man in Scarborough.

Police said they were called to the Danforth and Birchmount area shortly after 4 a.m.

Toronto Emergency Medical Services said a man in his 50s suffered a single gunshot wound. He was transported to St. Michael's Hospital where he died of his injuries, EMS said.

The man was found inside the Clarendon Wild Flowers Restaurant but evidence markers traced a separate trail of blood through the plaza's parking lot, CTV Toronto's Tamara Cherry reports.

Police are now investigating to find out who that blood belongs to.

Jennifer O'Toole, a resident in the area, told CTV Toronto that she is concerned about the restaurant.

"It's very shady. It's very quiet inside. But outside it's a different story," the mother of two said. "You have a lot of people hanging out that just shouldn't be there."

Chris Flint, who also lives in the area, echoed O'Toole's uneasiness about the eatery and its clientele.

"They seem like they're having a decent time though, that's the thing. It seems like they're all laughing and doing whatever so that's what kind of scares you – something goes wrong one time and someone gets something in their head and stuff like this happens."

Police have not made any arrests and have not released any details on possible suspects.

Det. Sgt. Graham Gibson told CTV Toronto that a local bar was open at the time of the incident and they are hoping witnesses will come forward to help with the investigation.

"We do know that there were at least 10 to 15 people inside. We're asking that those people come forward and speak to us," Gibson said.

Police said they reviewing the plaza's surveillance cameras.
