Do you have a name that just screams "Transportation City?" Then the Toronto Transit Commission wants to hear from you.
Toronto's transit system is looking for ideas on what to name new subway stations along the Spadina subway extension, asking residents to weigh in on the best title for the six planned stops.
The Spadina extension is under construction and will run an extra 8.6 kilometres northwest of the line's current end point at Downsview Station. Subway service along the line is expected to begin in 2015.
TTC officials said in a statement that station names should make a direct reference to their geographical location, whenever possible.
The key is to have the most-prominent word on station walls provide useful information for people who stop there, the TTC said.
A consultation form is available online. Those who participate in the survey are given several naming options for the six new subway stops, including two along the border of York University and one in the City of Vaughan. Participants are also invited to submit their own ideas.
The survey also asks participants to vote on whether to rename Downsview Station to allow another station to be named Downsview Park Station without causing confusion.
The TTC says it will make the final decision on the station names, using the survey feedback as a guide.
An unrelated plan to sell the naming rights of Toronto's current subway came up earlier this summer, when Coun. Doug Ford suggesting private companies would pay to have their name attached to stations near their businesses.
