The "Chinese Warren Buffett" is in Toronto on Tuesday to visit a research and education centre named in his honour.

Li Ka-Shing, 82, will tour the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, a facility designed to bring health researchers and doctors together.

The Li Ka Shing Foundation donated $25 million to the construction of the institute, which incorporates the Keenan Research Centre and the Li Ka Shing International Healthcare Education Centre at St. Michael's Hospital in downtown Toronto.

Li will meet with researchers, donors and hospital officials as part of his visit. A plaque will be unveiled during a brief ceremony.

Dubbed the "Chinese Warren Buffett," Li amassed a large personal fortune after his family fled from Japan to Hong Kong in 1940.

Li started a company that specialized in making plastic flowers at the age of 22 and later went into real estate, eventually building an international conglomerate.

Forbes Magazine estimates Li's net worth at $26 billion as of March 2011 – making him the 11th richest person in the world.
