A man who poured water over a Toronto bus driver's head has been sentenced to more than a month in jail.

The Toronto Transit Commission said that the suspect poured water out of a bottle on the driver's head and then pushed him on Nov. 13.

The suspect was arrested a short time later.

Taiseer Abubakar, 20, pleaded guilty to charges of assault and failing to comply with conditions of his probation order.

He was sentenced last Friday to 36 days in jail and ordered to stay away from the bus driver.

The TTC says an average of two employees are assaulted every day at work, ranging from punching, slapping and spitting, to threats of physical harm or death.
