Toronto police say a man who died after being struck by a vehicle in Toronto's north end Thursday morning may have been in an altercation before he was struck by the van.

Police said a 51-year-old man was struck by a car driving north along Jane Street, near Lawrence Avenue West, shortly after 1 am.

He was rushed to Toronto's Sunnybrook hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released to the public.

Toronto police said the man had been involved in an argument before he was struck with the vehicle. The vehicle's driver has been co-operative, police said.

While homicide investigators had been notified, they were not involved in the investigation.

Police have identified the victim as 51-year-old Abdirashid Guled.

Jane Street was closed in both directions at Lawrence Avenue for a police investigation and officers said they expected it to remain closed through the morning rush hour.

Toronto Police Traffic Services are appealing to any witnesses to contact investigators at 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-8477 (TIPS).
