Two men face a litany of charges Friday morning after being arrested leaving the scene of a bizarre Barrie, Ont. home invasion in the back of a cab.
Barrie Police say the suspects claimed to be plainclothes officers and forced their way into an apartment late Thursday night, handcuffing one of the occupants and stealing a safe.
The suspects then made their escape in the back of a waiting cab, which police say they had taken to the scene from Toronto.
The two men were arrested after police pulled the cab over while Toronto-bound on Highway 400.
OPP say they were able to track the suspects down with help from the cab company.
A 34-year-old Toronto man and a 30-year-old male from Beeton, Ont., face several charges stemming from the incident including robbery, forcible confinement and personating police officers.
The men also face several charges related to violating their probations, and were out on bail for a combined 48 other offences. The men are being held for a bail hearing.
The cab driver, a 54-year-old Toronto male, was also arrested and charged with dangerous driving. He was released with a future court date.
No injuries were reported from the incident.
Police say they have not opened the safe, but information from the victims suggests it contains cash or drugs.
