Police have answered some key questions in a bizarre Scarborough shooting death but say reluctant interviewees are preventing them from learning more.

Anthony Spencer, 23, was dropped off at Scarborough General Hospital with gunshot wounds just after 5 a.m. on Saturday. He died a short time later.

At a Sunday news conference, Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux said Toronto police have located the group of people – four men and one woman – who left Spencer at the hospital before fleeing in two separate vehicles.

The challenge, said Giroux, is that the individuals are not fully co-operating with police.

"The individuals we are interviewing and are still interviewing are being far less than truthful in regard to the narrative," he said.

Elaborating, Giroux added that some individuals have declined to be interviewed while others "have not been forthright."

Police have also located the two vehicles allegedly used the night Spencer died. Giroux said a silver Nissan and four-door sedan have been seized.

When police began investigating Spencer's death, the case lacked witnesses, a motive and even a crime scene.

Giroux said police now know that Spencer was shot at a recording studio at 799 Brimley Road, near Lawrence Avenue East. He said the studio predominantly records hip-hop or rap music.

Spencer and others were at the studio to record and did so throughout the night, he noted.

Search warrants for the studio are being prepared. In the meantime, Giroux said police are guarding the scene.

He added that an autopsy is underway as well.

"It's not going to be any secret, it's going to be a gunshot wound," said Giroux. "It's just a matter of how many and where they are."

In the meantime, Giroux is encouraging anyone with information to approach police. He said that Spencer's family wants to know what happened to their loved one.

Nine homicide investigators have been assigned to the case.
