Canadian figure skater Patrick Chan returned to Toronto Tuesday after winning a gold medal at the World Figure Skating Championship in Nice, France, on Friday.

Chan was greeted at Pearson International Airport by cheering fans who posed for pictures with the skating star after his big win.

"It wasn't an easy win, but it was a really fun, fun competition," a grinning Chan told reporters at the airport.

Chan's win was his second straight at the annual competition.

The last Canadian man to win back-to-back world titles was Elvis Stojko in 1994 and 1995.

Chan said he was honoured to be in the same category as Stojko and he was already looking forward to next year's world's competition.

"Let's hope to make it three," he said.

Chan's win came after a less-than-perfect skate Friday, as Chan stumbled on his double axel, but still earned enough points to win the competition.

Daisuke Takahashi of Japan took the silver, while Yuzura Hanyu, also of Japan, took bronze.

Chan was humble about his fall, saying he had a good skate, overall.

"It just shows we're human," Chan said. "We all make mistakes sometimes."

The competition was a good one for Canadians. Ice dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir also captured their second world title.
